I always wanted to be an author, but like many of us,  a career as an HR Officer and then raising my son took priority, and my dreams were put on hold, but always remained simmering. Now retired, a proud mum of a 22 year old son and a very patient husband(!), I am able to fulfill my dreams.

Born in Hertfordshire, I spent many childhood holidays in Jaywick and Clacton, Essex and have many fond memories. I still visit the area several times a year. As a result, I was keen to use Clacton as one of the nostalgic settings for my debut novel.

Now living in Bedfordshire with my family, I enjoy learning Spanish, travelling, singing and card making.

Why write now?

Reading, Writing ...

(Why I am passionate about reading and writing)

I love to read! This was established at an early age when my mum used to read to me at night, filling my head with different characters, locations, and many exciting adventures. At secondary school, Mr Jervis, my English Teacher, encouraged a passion for writing.

Initially my writing was heavily influenced by Roald Dahl and Jeffrey Archer, particularly their short stories, with all the twists and turns which kept me hooked. In my 30s, I started to write some in the same vein, mainly for my own amusement. These stories, like a fine wine, needed to ‘mature’ so I only returned to them a couple of years ago. It has been a joy to revisit these and very exciting to see my ‘babies’ growing and developing again!

Writing fiction has given me the opportunity to allow my imagination to run free. To become truly immersed in a book; the characters, storylines, and drama is a wonderful experience; being transported from one world into another, where anything can happen, is an amazing adventure and I love ‘losing’ myself in that way.

Challenge and Passion

Writing hasn't been easy - 'Time to Fly' has taken me four years to produce, but I am really enjoying the various processes. Although this is my first official venture into writing, I have a curious mind and am excited to share my  stories which I hope readers will find thought-provoking and inspiring. As a result, have another two novels in progress, as well as the collection of short stories mentioned above.
With my renewed interest in writing, I am so excited at the prospect of sharing with readers that wonderful immersive feeling that I always get, when picking up a book. The satisfaction of seeing my own in print and being able to say 'that’s my book' is amazing and I am so excited at the thought of seeing it on the shelves of my local bookstore, with others to follow.

During my 20s and 30s, with my love of singing, I found myself in a five-piece covers band. I still belt out rock or pop tunes at home and wherever I can find a karaoke opportunity!  I particularly love 80s music, although I enjoy a wide variety of songs, genres and singers from across the decades.
